Dublin Lodging…BOOKED! June 12, 2012

So we decided on a place to stay in Dublin!  YAY!  We will be hosteling it in Dublin.  Now, before you think, a hostel?  In your mid-30’s?  No, I haven’t gone crazy.  We have our own en suite room, so it’s really just a cheaper hotel.  We will get to learn cool stuff from the staff and hopefully meet cool people from who knows where!  We’re definitely going for the social aspect here.

So where are we staying?  We narrowed it down to four and ended up choosing The Times-College Street.  We were initially looking for hostels in the Temple Bar neighborhood, but decided on the Times, which is adjacent to Temple Bar, due to its location, reviews, and food.  As well as being close to Temple Bar (and all the pubs and nightlife there), it is also close to Trinity College (like, across the street?) and the Liffey.  And it’s $75/each for two nights.  Not too shabby!

I am excited for this development for a couple reasons.  First, we have a place to lay our heads when we land in Dublin.  That’s always a good thing!  Second, we won’t be pre-booking most of our accommodations, due to the nature of accommodations in Ireland.  Seeing as though we will be staying primarily in B&Bs when we are in the “country”, the custom is just to decide in what town you wish to stay and then find the B&B of your choosing.  This is both good and bad.  For an OCD person, obviously, I prefer to have an “itinerary” of sorts, so not having accommodations in advance is kind of frightening.  But, on the other hand, it’s nice to be able to decide on the fly.  If you really like a place, you can feel free to stay.  Or, if you decide you want to move on to the next stop earlier than you had anticipated, you are free to do so.  I should note that this is less customary during the high season, as you want to make sure there are beds available.  But because we are going in September, we don’t need to worry about it.

Mostly I am very excited about being able to check something else off the “list”, which makes it feel more real and that it’s getting closer!!!

Hello. I came across your blog completely by accident. I’m from Dingle in Ireland one of the places you’re planning to visit but I’m living in Hiroshima, Japan at the moment teaching English in elementary schools. I just wanted to say good luck with your trip. I hope you like Ireland, and especially Dingle!!, which is totally awesome. I would recommend having a pint in a bar called Dick Macks when you get to Dingle and some food in a restaurant called An Canteen that my friend owns. It’s really delicious and reasonably priced. Anyway good luck planning the rest of your trip 🙂

    • Hi Ciara! Thank you SO much for the comment. It is so great that you happened upon my blog. We will definitely check out those places in Dingle. Honestly, I can’t tell you how neat it is that you took the time to comment and give me some tips! I am very excited for the trip…which is now in under two months! Hope all is well in Japan!
